A whitelist is a list of addresses you want to accept email from whether or not the sender's email is stamped.
Any address you send mail to is automatically added to the whitelist with the presumption that, if you send someone mail, you'll also want to receive a response from that person. You can also add an address to the whitelist manually using the Response Manager. (See below.) And finally, the whitelist is added to when someone successfully answers a challenge .
You can also remove an address from the whitelist using the Response Manager.
The Response Manager screen is illustrated below. You get to the Response manager by right-clicking the UseBestMail icon and selecting "Response Manager" from the menu.
The Response Manger screen is where you manage the whitelist and the Pending list. More on the pending list later on.
Referring to the Whitelist Content in the figure above, this shows all the addresses in your whitelist. You can add an address to this list using the "New Entry" edit box below the list. Type in the address then click "Add Name above to whitelist."
The button below the "Add.." button lets you delete addresses you've marked in the list. (You can mark multiple addresses using the shift & control keys with the left-mouse button.)
This section of the Response Manager presents a list of emails that are waiting on the server to be validated through the challenge/response system. You don't really have to do anything with this list. However, you may see a message you want to download immediately. If so, you can transfer it to the whitelist so it will be downloaded next time you check your mail. (Note that you can force download of a message without transferring it to the whitelist by using the Preview Feature .)
If you are not using challenge/response, but you are sending out recruiting messages to senders of non-stamped mail, the Pending list serves a related but slightly different role. It probably isn't productive to send a recruiting message too often (i.e., for each message) to the same sender. Thus, for the number of days specified in the time limit (see next paragraph) a sender's address will remain on the list. As long as a sender is on the list, no additional recruiting messages will be sent to him. We recommend a longer expiration time for this, such as 30 days.
Another use of the Pending Validation list is to simply delete messages from the list. They are deleted automatically after the time limit (see Tips ) expires, however, and if you're using challenge/response you may receive non-delivery notices that won't be self canceling (they'll show up in your inbox) if you delete an entry here.
In general, we recommend that you let messages simply expire rather than going to the trouble of deleting them. With Challenge/Response we find 3-5 days to be a reasonable expiration interval. This saves you time and the trouble of evaluating non-delivery notices.
